Advanced Triggers: How to Customize The Behaviour Of Your Event URLs

This post will explain how you can customize your event URL to trigger specific desired behaviours including opening the modal immediately, and automatically applying a discount code or access key. This is useful, for example, if you'd like people who click on a certain ad to be redirected to your website and benefit from a certain discount code when purchasing tickets.

1. WHEN SELLING TICKETS ON YOUR WEBSITE

When selling tickets to your Universe event directly on your website, you can modify the URL of your site to trigger specific desired behaviours including opening the modal immediately, automatically applying a discount code or access key.

To set this up, you must have already created a Universe event page and are selling tickets to it directly on your website. Click here for more info on creating an event page and here for a step-by-step guide on setting up direct payments.

Once your Universe event page is live and integrated on your website, you can modify the URL of your website to add desired behaviours of the modal.
NOTE: The URL you will be modifying is the page on your website with the Universe integration installed.

1.a Setting the modal to open immediately when someone accesses the page:
To do so, add /?unii-trigger-open=EVENTID to the end of your URL.

You can access your EVENTID from the URL of your event page on www.universe.com and copying the 5 digit code at the end of the URL (located after your event name and location).

For example, if your event URL is https://www.universe.com/events/graven-feathers-letterpress-card-making-workshop-tickets-toronto-2VWWZ , your event ID is 2VWWZ .

The URL would then be: www.yourcompanywebsite.com/?unii-trigger-open=2VWWZ

1.b. Setting the modal to have a discount code already applied when someone opens the modal:
To do so, add /?unii-discount-code= discount code to the end of your URL.

You can add any discount code created on your event page to be automatically applied. This will not override any settings for the discount code you have already set (ie: how many times the code can be used and the ticket types it can be applied to). For more info on creating and managing discount codes, click here.

For example, if you create a discount code named EARLYBIRD and want it to be applied when someone opens the booking modal on your website, that is the discount code you would add the end of your URL.

The URL would then be: www.yourcompanywebsite.com/?unii-discount-code=EARLYBIRD

1.c. Setting the modal to have an access key already applied when someone opens the modal:
To do so, add /?unii-access-key= access key to the end of your URL.

You can add any access key created on your event page to be automatically applied. Access keys allow you to create password protected ticket types. For more info on creating and managing access keys, click here.

For example, if you create an access key named VIP and want it to be already applied when someone opens the booking modal on your website, that is the access key you would add the end of your URL.

The URL would then be: www.yourcompanywebsite.com/?unii-access-key=VIP

1.d. If you would like 2 or 3 of the behaviours to happen, for example, open the modal immediately when the webpage is accessed with a discount code and/or access key already applied, combine the codes for your desired behaviours above with an & to your URL.
Note: the /? portion of the code only needs to be added once directly after the end of your website URL

For example, www.yourcompanywebsite.com/?unii-trigger-open=2VWWZ&unii-discount-code=EARLYBIRD&unii-access-key=VIP

2. WHEN SELLING TICKETS ON UNIVERSE.COM

Similarly, when selling tickets on Universe.com, you can modify the URL to trigger specific desired behaviours including opening the modal immediately, automatically applying a discount code or access key.

2.a Setting the modal to open immediately when someone accesses your Universe event page:
To do so, add /?unii-trigger-open=EVENTID to the end of your Universe event URL.

To have the modal open immediately when someone accesses your Universe event page, use the URL https://www.universe.com/events/graven-feathers-letterpress-card-making-workshop-tickets-toronto-2VWWZ/?unii-trigger-open=2VWWZ

2.b. Setting the modal to have a discount code already applied when someone opens the modal on your Universe event page:
To do so, add /?unii-discount-code= discount code to the end of your Universe event URL.

You can add any discount code created on your event page to be automatically applied. This will not override any settings for the discount code you have already set (ie: how many times the code can be used and the ticket types it can be applied to). For more info on creating and managing discount codes, click here.

For example, if you create a discount code named EARLYBIRD and want it to be applied when someone opens the booking modal on event page on universe.com, that is the discount code you would add the end of your URL.

To automatically apply a discount code when someone opens the modal on your Universe event page, the URL would be: https://www.universe.com/events/graven-feathers-letterpress-card-making-workshop-tickets-toronto-2VWWZ/?unii-discount-code=EARLYBIRD

2.c. Setting the modal to have an access key already applied when someone opens the modal on your Universe event page:
To do so, add /?unii-access-key= access key to the end of your Universe event URL.

You can add any access key created on your event page to be automatically applied. Access keys allow you to create password protected ticket types. For more info on creating and managing access keys, click here.

For example, if you create an access key named VIP and want it to be applied when someone opens the booking modal on your event page on universe.com, that is the access key you would add the end of your URL.

To automatically apply an access key when someone opens the modal on your Universe event page, the URL would be: https://www.universe.com/events/graven-feathers-letterpress-card-making-workshop-tickets-toronto-2VWWZ/?unii-access-key=VIP

2.d. If you would like 2 or 3 of the behaviours to happen, for example, open the modal immediately when the your event page is accessed with a discount code and/or access key already applied, combine the codes for your desired behaviours above with an & to your URL.
Note: the /? portion of the code only needs to be added once directly after the end of your website URL

For example, https://www.universe.com/events/graven-feathers-letterpress-card-making-workshop-tickets-toronto-2VWWZ?unii-trigger-open=2VWWZ&unii-discount-code=EARLYBIRD&unii-access-key=VIP
